Ultima IX: Ascension

The City of Britain

The Map
The Capital of the Realm

The Places

1 Castle Britannia
Home of Lord British, this imposing edifice contains a Binding Circle and numerous useful supplies. As well as the material aid provided by Lord British, the guard Keller can assist with training in one-handed weapons. Hennington is also a useful aid as he keeps track of where the King has vanished to.

2 The Maze
Once a fine place to ramble, this hedge is now infested with large vermin. Useful items can be found within, especially if you seek the center of the Maze and the Flaming Sword that is therein.

3 The Mayor's House
The home of Aidon, the Mayor of Britain. Even he is not privy to all of it's secrets, although his aide Killigan is. Killigan is certain to know where Aidon is if he isn't home.

4 The Cathedral of Love
After the destruction of Empath Abbey, the Monks came to Britain and built this cathedral where they make the valuable medicine Serpentwyne.

5 The Museum
This vast hall has displays relating to the history of the Avatar. The Curator Aleena can provide useful information about artifacts that have gone missing.

6 Nico's Magic Shop
The owner of this shop has taken a trip to Cove to visit his brother. When he returns he can offer reagents, potions and scrolls to a potential buyer.

7 The Docks
Little shipping is taking place in this day and age, due to the whirlpools sinking ships in The Great Sea. However what little there is will pass through this place.

8 The West Gate
This archway is over the road leading west to Paws. In a chest atop it is a scroll of Telekinesis.

9 The East Gate
This marks the eastern boundary of Britain.

10 The Mill
This vital cog in the day to day life of Britain is now unattended as the miller was exiled to Paws due to an injury.

11 The Bakery
Jastral the Baker now is going to have great difficulty in his work, dependent as it is on flour from the mill.

12 The Jeweler's Shop
Cameron the Jeweler will buy gems and jewelry brought to him. He can also cut and polish large gems if necessary.

13 The Provisioner
Bailey has a limited selection, but the items he will sell may prove invaluable to thy quest.

14 The Tavern
Dara is a grumpy sort, but she and her patrons are well informed when it comes to happenings within Britain.

15 The Blacksmith's Shop
Giovanni leaves the actual operation of the business to his wife Olwyn, but he does know a thing or two about more esoteric minerals and who can work with them.

16 The Bowyer's Shop
Leon sells bows and arrows to those who ask. In addition he is a good trainer, capable of giving the basics to any would-be archer. For a scroll of Light Heal, click on the statue in the shop.

17 The Wishing Well
This well seems normal, unless you toss a coin from the bench beside it into The water. If this is done, a Glass Sword will appear thrust into the ground beside the well.

18 The Gazebo
The center of Britain, this is where the people gather for public meetings.

19 The Binding Circle
In this place behind the magic shop, mages may bind the spells they have purchased.

20 Sarah
This is The usual haunt of The Keeper of the Shrine of Compassion. She knows much of the Virtue of Compassion, including The Mantra. Her knowledge extends to the fate of the Runes, shown to her in dreams.

21 Iolo's Hut
This is the home of Iolo, one of the Companions of the Avatar, and his wife Gwenno. Iolo is the acknowledged master archer of Britannia, and would likely be willing to teach an old friend, if he had not vanished into Despise.

22 The Column
Here is The source of much of what currently troubles Britain. The entrance to Despise is just to the east.

23 East to Compassion
Across the clearing here, The path leading eastward into The mountains to The Shrine of Compassion is clearly visible.

24 Evidious
This is the home of the Avatar's local fan, a slightly loony lookalike named Evidious.

25 The Cemetery
Not unusually for Britannia, The dead tend to get up and chase down the living in this place.
